“Golden Quiet” – A Handpainted Decorative Ceramic Tile by Anna Tsetsos
Original 1910 Ceramic Tile | Wall-Mounted Floral Artwork | From the Artist’s Family Home
A bright tribute to nostalgia and natural joy, Golden Quiet is a handpainted ceramic tile by Greek artist Anna Tsetsos, created on a vintage roof tile dating back to 1910, salvaged from her grandmother’s village home in northern Greece.
The century-old ceramic surface, once exposed to sun and seasons atop a house filled with stories, now blossoms anew with bold, yellow tulips painted in vibrant acrylic and enamel. The flowers rise confidently from a terracotta pot rendered in warm orange and ochre, a nod to Mediterranean pottery and the artist’s heritage. Their vivid hues dance against a deep, earthy slate background, creating an arresting contrast that feels both rustic and modern.
This piece retains the graceful arc of its original tile form, and features subtle imperfections—textural whispers of its past life. Two aged brass hooks allow the work to be elegantly displayed on the wall, inviting viewers into a moment of serene botanical joy.
Tsetsos shares: “I wanted to paint the tulips like little lanterns—bright, simple, and full of quiet strength, just like my grandmother’s garden.”
