“Path of Petals”
Handcrafted Organic Wool Rug, Greece, c. 1900-1910

“Path of Petals” is a tender example of early 20th-century Greek craftsmanship, woven by hand from organic wool by a village woman whose skill and spirit still linger in every thread. Created around 1900, this narrow rug served as a hallway runner in a rural stone home, both functional and deeply symbolic.

A procession of stylized rose motifs marches gracefully down the center, their crimson and amber hues softly blooming against a field of warm beige. Each flower, simple yet poignant, suggests cycles of growth and care, while the surrounding jagged border—rich burgundy with geometric rhythm—adds grounding weight and visual harmony.

The wool, naturally dyed and timeworn, carries the scent of sun and earth. The weaver’s work reflects not only artistic instinct but also an intuitive understanding of symmetry, balance, and beauty in repetition. “Path of Petals” is more than a woven textile; it is a quiet heirloom, a memory underfoot, a legacy of gentleness and resilience.

In good condition with reasonable tearing and flaws over time. Used only in the private collection of previous owner. The rug is 260cm in length and 68cm wide, lightweight.
